Questions and answers
About the CV check, the CV builder, your data, and CVs in general.
The CV check
Is the CV checker free?
Yes. Checking your CV is free, with no sign-up and no limit.
How do I check my CV?
Drop your CV into the CV checker as a PDF or Word file. Your own page appears with problem lines highlighted. Tap a highlight to see why it matters and what to add.
Is my CV uploaded when I check it?
No. Your file is read in your own browser. It is never sent to us or stored anywhere.
What does beta mean?
The CV check is new. If a fix looks wrong, dismiss it and tell us, and we'll improve it.
Will my CV pass the ATS?
Most applicant tracking systems don't reject CVs by themselves; they filter on yes or no questions like right to work. The CV check makes sure your CV can be read and covers what the job asks for, and every template in the builder downloads as real, selectable text.
The CV builder
Is the CV builder really free?
Yes. Building, tailoring, downloading as PDF or Word, and tracking applications are all free. There is no trial and no paywall on downloads.
Can I import my existing CV?
Yes. Upload a PDF or Word file and the builder fills in your sections, so you don't have to retype everything.
How do I tailor my CV to a job description?
Paste the job advert into Job match, tick the roles, bullets and skills that fit, and save it as a new version. Your master CV stays untouched, and the tracker records which version went to which company.
Your data
Do I need to create an account?
No. There is no sign-up, email or password. Your CV is saved in your own browser on your own device.
Where is my CV stored?
Only in your browser. We do not receive a copy. It leaves your device only when you download it or share a link yourself. The one feature that talks to a server is Find jobs, and it sends only what you type in the search box, never your CV.
CV advice
What do recruiters look for in a CV?
Most look first at your latest job title, the company and the first lines under your latest job, and they look for results rather than duties.
How long should a CV be in Ireland or the UK?
Usually one or two A4 pages. Older jobs can be cut to a line each.
Should I put a photo on my CV?
In Ireland and the UK most employers don't expect one, and most recruiters prefer none. In some other countries a photo is normal.
Do I need references on my CV?
No. You can leave out "References available on request". Employers ask for references when they need them.
Is a CV the same as a résumé?
Mostly. In Ireland and the UK a CV is the standard document for job applications, usually one or two A4 pages. In the US a résumé is the shorter equivalent.
